Hello! Welcome to my webpage. I am a native Hawaiian and proud to be one! I currently live in Honolulu, the capital of Hawaii. I live here with my mom, my dad, and my brother. I am about to attend a new high school, in fact my first high school. It is the Maui High school home to our own tikis! I hear so much about this place all the time. The education there is supposed to be great and one of the best in all of Hawaii. I'll start off by telling a little about me. My name is Iakona Makaiau and i am a native to the island of Maui.I love to surf whenever i can. Sometimes I even skip school to surf. I sure hope my parents aren't reading this. I also like to hang out with my friends a lot. I am a little scared of going to high school for the first time. I've heard of bad stuff and good stuff about high school. Oh well, I guess I just have to find out for my self. Oh yeah, i look a lot older than i really am in the picture below. I'm still just going to be a freshman. Lots of my family has gone to Maui high school. they all said that they loved it. I am ready and can't wait for school to start. I think that it will be very exciting and interesting. I have only a few worries about high school. I have many friends but i wonder if i am going to fit in. I hope that high school is more laid back and less dramatic than middle school, ugh, that was so dumb.

Hey jason,
I was wondering what your thoughts were about the PTSA wanting to ban all of those books. I think that all of the books are all appropriate for high school students. Although some of these books have violent or sexual themes, most of them can relate to themes many teenagers experience on a daily basis. I think that the books are essential in a high school students' education because they highlight themes that are happening throughout the world. What do you think about these books? Do you think some of them are too violent or too sexual?
Comment me bacK!
Hey Iakona! It's cool that you have always lived in Hawaii. ANd that you love to surf. We shoudl totally go surfing together sometime. Well the school is stupid. These books are fine, and they need to get over it. No book can be too violent. And for the racial things, kids like us need to know about that kind of stuff. We need to be educated. We are mature and can handle it. The school board sucks.

Hello Iakona. I think these books are pretty okay to read in school. I know that Perks has some pretty extreme drug usage and there are no repercussions, but it's still a pretty accurate representation of high school. Beloved had parts that were disgusting and that I had to skip over, but I think we just all need to realize that they are books and they are fictional. I mean its not like I read that much, mostly I am at the mall. I don't really take anything seriously.
Thanks,
Sharpay
Hello Iakona!
I was just wondering what your view was on what the whole PTSA banning those certain books. I think it is just awful that they might do this to us. I think that thy should just raise the age limit for the books that are not suitable for kids. What do you think?

Dear Iakona Makaiau,
I agree with you. Although I'm not an English teacher or a regular academic teacher for that matter, I still feel that for a child to receive a proper education, they need to be familiar with everyday issues. These books give the students a good and realistic look at issues like these. Overall, I strongly enforce the keeping of these books in our school.

So surfer dude to surfer dude, have you read any of these books people are geeking out about? I mean are they totally rad and parents are being a buzz kill and trying to rain on our teenage parade? Or are they like WOW why are we reading this bull? What's your deal on the issue, are you for or against this book ban? Or are you like me, and the last book you read was green eggs and ham. Which was totally rad by the way.
